I was thinking the other day how much my own life has changed since I was a boy captivated by the election of 1984. Being only 14 I had no idea how much of an impact those "Morning in America" commercials would have on me, or how long the memories of how I felt watching them would last. Is it me? Or has the world changed? I suppose the answer is both. "Where have you gone Joe Dimagio?" was the line in the Simon and Garfunkel song. This Reflection to an earlier time when America had hero's that made us feel good about ourselves, today I would ask "Where have you gone Ronald Reagan?" I hear all the same platitudes about American potential, all the same talk, but talk without a soul. Is it just me that hears something canned, distant, and nothing more than rhetoric speak? I'm talking about that feeling which is difficult to describe, but we all know when we feel it. Its the recognition that our ears are hearing what we want, but our hearts are still breaking because we want so much to feel again like Reagan made us feel. It is getting harder to recognize the country I grew up in. May God bless us all.
